Hi, and welcome to entry
#3 in our weekly diaries, where we tell you all about our various adventures
in the L.A. production world. Where shall I begin? The rewriting process is
indeed a fabulous one... There's really no clear end, there's only (hopefully)
constantly improving versions of dialogue, character, etc. Writing, like every
art form, draws on the self, and so the script - which I first wrote in December
of 1998 - has grown with me. It's quite an interesting process - my reward
is hearing the true voices of my characters finally coming out, knowing that
the expression of their experience belongs only to themselves and is not tainted
by my world-weary perspective. If you had trouble understanding the last paragraph,
go ahead, read again...
In other news, Dayna has
been working on our publicity material and we have a beautiful new poster.
We are very excited about the approaching trip to the IFFM
in New York, especially due to all the e-mail correspondence we have been
getting from various filmmakers. It's really a nice feeling to see that everyone
is so supportive and is so excited about their films. Because of all the information
we've been receiving, I feel like we are going to meet a bunch of friends
instead of strangers.
I also celebrated my birthday
this week and my birthday party turned out pretty well. Lots of dancing, drinking
and schmoozing. I'm now officially 26 (sort of) and am planning to stay that
way for at least two more years.
Our film, now completed,
was shipped to New York this week via UPS. To mark the incredibly kind treatment
we received at Foto-Kem I bought pies to our sales rep there (Nancy Arahmi),
and to our color corrector, Doug Lind. It is truly rewarding to be able to
see the process through to its end like we have. There are so many varied
stages involved in filmmaking that it's really great to finally be at the
end of the process.
Our first live interview
is scheduled to happen early next week, and I hope by then to dive specifically
into some of the technical aspects of post-production. On a final note, Kari,
our website designer extaordinaire has been sick, and we all wish her
a speedy recovery.
Don't hesitate to ask
questions, we are here to try and answer them.
Great week,
Micky
